OBJECTIVES

To become an interdependent member of a creative and productive educational team.  Specifically, to join a team that strives to support learning and solve educational challenges through the creative and effective use of technology resources and tools.   I want to help teachers and students make sense of the vast array of resources at their disposal with today's technology, and use it to maximize learning at school and at home.  I am also open to working with students directly as an instructor of technology applications, visual arts, or other academic subjects.

CORE QUALITIES

  • Teamwork: I am very comfortable working in a creative team - indeed, that is the sole structure that I have worked under in the last 6 years, both in schools and in our agency.  I have experience with establishing Professional Learning Communities with very diverse members in public schools as well as our state agency.  I am used to working in small (5-8 person) teams with very diverse members in a variety of time frames and work settings:  short and long term, face-to-face and remotely, collaborating with different agencies, and working with educators and administrators of very grade and subject level.
  • Life-long Learner: I love to learn.  I ask questions about anything I do not understand and am not ashamed to admit ignorance - because that is a temporary state.  I am a agile learner and very adaptable - a cognitive doppelganger, if you will.  I am self motivated and very comfortable teaching myself even the most difficult concepts or skills.  I can learn, unlearn, and relearn effectively.
  • Content Knowledge: I am officially trained and certified in Art, and have a master's in Instructional Technology, but I have had direct experience working with all of the Georgia content standards, K-12 and in every subject.  My content knowledge has grown considerably while working at First District RESA.  One of my primary duties is to enhance teaching in all content areas at all grade levels.  I often model lessons in the classroom or team-teach  with our clients. I am willing to earn certification in other subjects if the position warrants it.
  • Creativity: I enjoy producing original ideas that have value.  I am an artist in many ways, from traditional to digital mediums such as graphic design and multimedia production.  I enjoy writing in all forms, from fiction to grant applications.    I am a calculated risk taker and push for new directions and paradigms.  I am very open to critique and can give and receive feedback effectively.
  • Multi-tasking & Scheduling: Most of my professional experience involves coordinating my own complex schedule with other educators in over 13 school systems, meeting stringent deadlines, and diplomatically handling complications that may arise.  I am comfortable with setting my own priorities but I am also experienced in responding to multiple (5+) bosses.
  • Information Technology: Technology is changing the way we create, work with, and share information.  Digital tools are giving us more options and choices in all aspects of life.  I specialize in researching and implementing technology for learning and team collaboration.  With my instructional technology experience, I can bring more efficiency, communication, and effectiveness to any creative team.

SPECIFIC SKILLS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Lesson design: much of my work has involved helping teachers navigate the myriad technology options available to them and incorporate only those that are critical to helping students learn.  I have designed or help design countless lessons and units in every subject and grade level.  I am fluent in concepts of LoTI, Backwards Design, Formative Assessment, and Differentiated Instruction.  I push for strong, rigorous lessons that push higher order thinking and 21st century skills.
  • Web Design: Proficient in FrontPage, Moodle, and Joomla.  Some notable sites:
  • Social Tools: Created, maintained, and managed numerous Blogs, Wikis, & forums.  Helped multiple school systems implement Google Apps for their domains, which gave multiple Google services to teachers while giving schools the supervision and control they need. See the Technology Solutions page for more info.
  • Video  & Audio production: Sony Vegas, Pinnacle, Audacity
  • 2D Digital: Photoshop, Gimp.  Most of my experience is in web graphics and digital image manipulation.
  • 3D Digital: Google Earth (overlays and placemarks), Sketchup
  • Traditional Art: art history, painting, drawing, ceramics, photography, color theory, etc.
  • Productivity: All current office applications (Microsoft, Open Office, Adobe, etc)
  • Certifications: Art Education teaching certificate (T5) - K-12, all areas of art.  SMART Board certified trainer (in progress)
